Description

The Crystal Quest whole house reverse osmosis system brings purified water to every tap in your home, and Crystal Quest calls it the best-performing RO system available, drawing on more than three decades of experience. Each unit is tested at the factory before it leaves, arrives ready to run and needs only minimal plumbing. Keep the pre-filters and membranes on schedule and the system is expected to last 15 to 20 years.

A whole house reverse osmosis system built to last

Every Crystal Quest RO system is modular, asks for little day-to-day attention and is economical to run. A whole house system is a long-term investment in your home and family, and it is designed to pay that investment back for many years.

Finding the right fit is easier with a wide choice of flow rates, so you can match the system to the daily water use of your household.

Advantages of the Crystal Quest whole house RO

  • Compact build that saves floor space
  • Components that are easy to reach
  • Lightweight design that can be expanded later
  • Fully equipped, with room to customize
  • Low running costs
  • Inexpensive to maintain
  • Simple to service and maintain
  • Tested and preserved at the factory
  • CE compliant
  • Made in the USA
  • ISO certified components from Scientific World Products

What is in the storage tank kit

  • RO unit: a reverse osmosis system of commercial grade with pre-filtration on board, which extends membrane life.
  • Water tank: purified water is held in an atmospheric storage tank of 165, 220 or 500 gallons, chosen to suit your system, your demand and the space you have.
  • Pump: whenever water is drawn in the house, the pump delivers it from the tank on demand.
  • Float switches: mounted inside the tank, they tell the RO system when to switch on and off according to the water level.

Optional add-ons

12 GPM UV Water Sterilizer

A premium UV sterilizer can be added as an extra safeguard against microbiological contamination.

Alkalizing post-filter options

Several whole house filters that naturally alkalize, mineralize and oxidize are available to raise the alkalinity of the water before it is distributed through the house.

Remineralizer system

This add-on is sized to your daily consumption in gallons per day (GPD). It puts essential minerals back into the purified water and adjusts the pH, which protects plumbing and fixtures and improves the taste. The table shows which remineralizer suits each system size.

System size Remineralizer
300 - 2500 GPD Single Big Blue Alkalizer/Remineralizer
4000 - 5000 GPD Remineralizer System (1.5 cubic feet)
7000 GPD Remineralizer System (2.0 cubic feet)

If you prefer strongly alkaline water, you can choose a larger remineralizer than the table suggests.

Water straight from a reverse osmosis membrane is free of minerals and may be slightly acidic. A pH under 6.4 is not advised for people or livestock to drink. Remineralizing after the RO raises the pH and alkalinity and prevents the damage acidic water can do to plumbing and fixtures.

Very alkaline water can taste unpleasant to some people, with a note often described as plastic, metallic, chlorine-like or fishy.

Popular upgrades

Every system comes with a broad set of standard features. A range of options lets you adapt it to different water treatment needs; these are the upgrades chosen most often.

  • Stainless steel rotary vane pump: lasts longer and copes better with feed water that is high in TDS and with corrosive substances such as dosing chemicals and antiscalants.
  • Concentrate recycle valve: sends part of the wastewater back into the feed stream, raising recovery and making the RO system more efficient.
  • SWP Digital Dual TDS Controller: shows the TDS of the feed and of the permeate at the same time, so you can see how well the membrane is working and how much salt it rejects.
  • SWP Digital TDS Controller: tracks either the feed TDS or the permeate TDS.
  • SWP Digital TDS/Conductivity Controller: tracks the TDS and conductivity of the RO permeate, a useful measure of how well the whole system performs.
  • IF Computer Controller with feed flush: adds a pre-treatment lockout, a tank level input and an LED status display that makes operation easier.
  • S150 Computer Controller with Feed Flush: adds a pre-treatment lockout, a tank level input, an LED status display and an alarm (4000 GPD and larger only).
  • Chemical pump outlet: a power outlet built into the RO system for a chemical feed pump to plug into.
  • Blending valve: mixes some feed water into the final RO permeate to reach the TDS level you want.
  • Permeate sample port: lets you check each membrane separately, which helps with troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • 240V 50-60Hz or 110V 50-60Hz: pick the voltage and frequency your site requires.
  • Single wood crate

Rating conditions

Every system is rated with water at 77 degrees Fahrenheit and total dissolved solids (TDS) below 2000. Look up the specs of the precise model you have in mind. If your water is outside these limits, get in touch with us for advice on the right setup.

Installation Instructions

Installation steps

  1. Set the system on a level floor and secure it so it cannot vibrate or move; a rubber mat under it helps.
  2. Before start-up, check that no plumbing or electrical connection came loose in shipping.
  3. Connect the feed water line to the inlet solenoid valve next to the pre-filter housings, and keep a smooth, steady supply of feed water.
  4. Connect the purified water line to the storage tank or point of use with no back pressure, using plumbing suited to purified water: RO water runs 1 to 2 pH points lower than the feed and can attack copper pipe.
  5. Run the concentrate line to a drain with no restriction or back pressure.
  6. Check that the power supply matches the system and has a protective earth ground. Have a licensed electrician wire it to local national electrical codes.
  7. With a storage tank kit, install the float switch in the tank and connect it to the system's tank level connections. These are dry contacts: never apply power to them.
  8. Purge the system with the purified water line sent to drain until no bubbles show in the concentrate flow meter. The settings differ by size, so follow the manual for yours: 500 to 2,500 GPD purge with the power on and the concentrate valve half open; 300, 400 and 4,000 to 7,000 GPD purge with the power on, the concentrate valve fully open, the pump bypass valve closed and the solenoid valve's bypass lever offset.
  9. On 300, 400 and 4,000 to 7,000 GPD, also flush to drain for about 15 minutes with the concentrate valve fully open, then reopen the pump bypass valve and return the solenoid valve's bypass lever before power goes on.
  10. Start the system and set the concentrate valve, and the pump bypass valve where your size has one, for the rated flow and pressure. Never exceed the pressure rating of the membrane housing.
  11. Check for leaks. After one hour, shut the system down, send the purified water back to the tank or point of use, and turn the system back on.
  12. Record the readings daily for the first week, then once a week.
